This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with English language learners. They have come from different parts of the world. So imagine what it is like to walk into a school, not know anyone, and not speak a word of English. It is a very difficult situation.

Our school is in a very low income part of town.

Ninety eight percent of our students are on the free lunch and breakfast program.

Our students also do not have the parental support at home to assist with things like homework and reading because their parents do not speak English either.

Yet, they have a deep yearning to learn and a sense of community is deeply established among them.

My Project

Time magazine for Kids will assist them in their reading skills and help them stay in touch with current events. The majority of my students do not have access to staying in touch with current events. This is very important for today’s youth. This will also assist them in their reading skills and open their eyes to what is going on in different parts of the world. As students learn to read and speak English it is essential that students be connected to the real world. It assists them with their vocabulary as well. Time for Kids will assist them with this.
