My students are part of a Title 1 school were 100% of them receive free lunch. Many of them are part of the backpack program where they are sent home a bag of food for the weekend so that they don't go hungry. We are located in a very poor rural community in western North Carolina.
With everything that is stacked against them, my student are always giving 100% to better themselves in their education.
They are like little sponges who are trying to soak up all the information that they can on a daily basis.
My Project
In my classroom, where very few students know what a newpaper or magazine is. Scholastic News will be a resource that helps my students stay on top of current events and provides interesting reading materials to readers that find books hard to read. I believe that it will peek the interest of those students who don't find reading fun by providing topics that will bring the excitement back into reading. This will be a great resource for my students to use to learn about character traits, sequencing, cause and effect, and many other literary elements that are beneficial to their learning.
