My Students

I teach reading and social studies to 75 fifth graders throughout the school year. The students at our school are amazing kiddos that come from low socio-economic homes. Our school is a Title I school with 100% of our students receiving free lunch. The family structure of our students can be any combination you can think of. They need the necessary tools to keep them engaged and on task.

Our classroom is made up of a diverse group of learners that come from a variety of backgrounds.

Our students come on all different learning levels but with the same hunger to learn! I work hard to provide my students with literature and learning experiences that will bridge the gap and make them into lifelong learners. Through the use of rich literature, on all different reading levels, each and every student can learn so much!

My Project

It's important that students know the difference between real news and fake news. The internet is an amazing place to find information but sometimes they need to see the real thing too. The problem then becomes that often times real newspapers and magazines are written way above my students reading level.

Scholastic News is a great resource to help my students enhance their media literacy and boost their comprehension of nonfiction text too.

Learning how to analyze text is an import skill for my fifth graders to have. Scholastic News provides a way for them to practice this while they are learning about the world around them.
