My Students
My students this year are top notch. They are curious about the topics we discuss everyday, and work hard to retain new information and build background knowledge on already taught material. My 4th and 5th graders lack parental support at home. There is very little background knowledge built at home. Over 71% of our students receive free lunch.
My goal is to build a love for reading.
Reading is something that can help each child escape a difficult day. Teaching students to read on an independent level is something I strive for in my classroom.
My Project
The informational magazine will give students background knowledge on informational happening currently in the world they live in. The magazine will also give them an understanding of global awareness. Students will learn about third world countries and gain empathy throughout their reading.
The vocabulary used in the magazines will broaden the students level in their reading comprehension.
So many students are on grade level with literature text but struggle comprehending informational text. This will give them the opportunity to learn about true topics going on in the world around them.
