My Students
As a first year teacher I got lucky with the amazing 23 kiddos I have in my class. Our classroom theme is WONDER this year. This means we always chose kind and we don't limit our learning to just the information we "have" to learn. My students are incredibly bright and curious, they always want to go above and beyond to learn more than what they can find in their text books. My hope is that these magazines will help answer their current curiosities and spark new ones.
My Project
Time for Kids magazines would benefit my students in more ways than one. One of the major benefits would be access to current events. My students have very limited (once a week) access to technology at school, and most of them do not have full access to full technology at home. This being said, many of them are not aware of the world around them. These magazines will give them the opportunity to read up on current events, in fifth grade friendly language.
In addition to gaining a broadened world view point, they will also be able to utilize the magazines to strengthen their reading comprehension skills.
The magazine comes with fantastic teacher resources that will allow me to use them as a tool for reading comprehension which will prepare the students for state testing.
