My 8th grade students are truly one of a kind. They are appreciative, respectful, and fearless. Being that our school is nestled in a tight-knit rural community, school doubles as a second home to most of my students and they actually enjoy coming to school!
Eager, inquisitive, and enthusiastically thirsty for knowledge, my students are always looking to broaden their horizons and challenge themselves with new materials, technology, and curriculum.
As our next generation leaders, my diverse group of students are filled with anticipation about their futures, their success, and their place in our world today. They are ready and eager to learn just what it takes to be a successful functioning adult.
My Project
Some might ask, "Why bother teaching current events?" With direct access to the internet, social media, and videos, it seems as though teaching a current events class would be obsolete. However, there is much research based evidence that suggests that exposing junior high students to today's current events provides an array of benefits.
Informative, challenging and enticing; The Junior Scholastic News magazine provides an evidence based, Common Core aligned curriculum that includes a multitude of media, videos, images, articles, essays, and stories that will expose my students to the present day events and controversial issues of our ever changing world.
The Scholastic Magazine subscription will benefit my students greatly. Junior Scholastic news will be utilized in an exploratory classroom in which the students will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss today's happenings and controversial topics in a safe, constructive, open environment all while mastering both Social Science, ELA, and Writing standards.
