My students are kind, caring, and curious about the world beyond their front door. Students in my school are unique because of where they live. We live in the mountains of beautiful Colorado. We are 30 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Denver. Kids here tend to stay "kids" longer. It is a great community that supports each other. My students are kind, and compassionate. They love learning, especially about the world beyond our small community.
These kiddos are voracious readers.
They love to read and learn about the experiences of others. They enjoy having discussions about the world and how it works. They especially love to argue their own theories about these ideas. These students love to be challenged and learn new things.
My Project
These materials provide engaging, interesting and rich readings to our students that allow them to grow as readers and develop critical thinking skills. The articles are timely, and about subjects that are interesting to teens. They provide a stage for teachers to access reading and writing skills. Although teachers are able to access a variety of reading material, Scholastic News has the unique ability to tap into the issues that our students are most invested in. It allows teachers to teach, but also to better relate to and understand our pupils. These magazines will be used constantly in the classroom and will increase the rigor of our teaching.
