This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is an ethnically diverse elementary school in the Central Valley of California. One hundred percent of our 850 students enrolled in the school receive free breakfast and lunches. Over 80% of our students come from socioeconomically disadvantaged families.

My students are eager to learn, and I am always looking for creative ways to keep them motivated and engaged in learning.

Recently, I started an after reading club that will encourage students to read more and take AR tests!

My Project

Reading is something I want all students to enjoy.

Recently, I started an after school reading club where students voluntarily spend an hour after school coming to my class to read.

Students wait in line to rush in and choose their favorite seat to read in. I have some flexible seating options but its not enough for all of the students to enjoy. I wanted to add these new pieces in hopes that it will excite them and they can enjoy their reading space. I have seen how choice can positively my students work and eagerness to read. Looking forward to adding to our class.
