My students come to school excited to start their day! My classroom is a brand new self contained Preschool Special Needs Classroom. All of my students have an IEP in place. They have Fine Motor, Gross Motor, Personal Social, Adaptive, and Cognitive delays. Most of my students are from low-income families and receive snack packs over the weekend.
My students are full of energy and love to explore their surroundings!
They are curious about learning, but need a lot of one-on-one assistance to complete fine motor tasks and activities. My students need more hands on materials that are on their developmental level that will help them to become more independent and stay engaged.
My classroom is set up with various learning stations, so my students can learn while playing! Through play, a child has the opportunity to engage his imagination and explore his surroundings. Play also helps to enhance a child’s concentration, attention, creativity, and overall cognitive development.
My Project
My students struggle with performing tasks that use their fine motor skills. Fine motor skills involve the use of the small muscles that control the hand, fingers, and thumb. They help children perform important tasks like feeding themselves, grasping toys, buttoning and zipping clothes, writing, drawing, and more. This can cause them to become frustrated and upset when they can’t complete every day tasks.
It’s important to start working with children on building their fine motor skills at an early age.
My students will use the materials during small group, or one-on-one instruction, or during play. The materials will help strengthen their fine motor skills in a fun and engaging way.
