Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, intelligent and observant individuals. I had the pleasure of meeting the students last year when they were seventh graders. Our school is located in Paterson, New Jersey, and is a Title One school. This means we work hard and strive to provide equal, challenging and adaptable opportunities for all students.
I would love to provide the best and most effective materials for these young and energetic students.
With this being said, I hope to teach these students how to be aware, curious, and explore new ideas, concepts, and knowledge that connect to their education and real-life experiences.
My Project
My students are curious explorers. I have selected many different types of genres for this project in order to expand their interests. Why? I want to open the door for students to explore books. I know they will able to connect and relate to the characters and their struggles. It is important for young adults to read books about others who look, talk, act, and experience the same things they do.
I have also selected books that can help expand their imagination.
Some students want to escape their reality and struggles, rather than read about them. With this being said, I have also selected books about powerful kings/queens, magical places, powerful beings, and many more where they can vicariously live through the adventures of the characters.
