This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Nothing can beat the experience of taking the tools that you have learned all year in Biology and applying them in a frog dissection! However, we need the supplies to make this lab a reality!
I teach in a public school in the Mississippi Delta, and though many students live in poverty and are on free/reduced lunch, they come to school each day, excited and eager to learn.
I want to make sure that I can provide my students with the same quality lab education that students from more privileged backgrounds receive.
My Project
This lab will allow students to explore how organ systems work together in a frog dissection! Many of my students have ambitions to work in the health profession and this will be an opportunity for them to discover anatomy firsthand. We need dissecting pans and pads to provide students with the surface to explore the inside of their first frog. Additionally, we need dissecting kits to give students the tools necessary to act as frog surgeons!
Dissections were the highlight of my science classes, and they were, quite frankly, one of the most exciting things that I did while I was at school.
This dissection will help to bring to life and reinforce the content that we learned all year!
I know that a hands-on dissection will be a completely new and exciting experience for my students. It is my hope to be able to provide this opportunity to my scientists and to really reel them into the inquisitive world of science!
