My classroom of eleventh and twelfth grade students are motivated to get through the year while exploring chemistry with me. From day one of the classroom, we create an environment of curiosity and problem-solving and my students look for ways to bring the real world to them. We investigate both in and out of the four walls together and we ask questions to further our understanding. My students' desires are to be more well-rounded scientists and citizens when they leave my classroom, not just informed or knowledgeable on chemistry.
My students' growth throughout the year hinders on the opportunities they have to investigate and learn about the world and environment around them.
My students desire to learn and apply their knowledge in the laboratory investigations, often as inquiry labs or problem-based learning. My students lead the investigation and take interest in their own learning through problem-solving and questioning. We grow throughout the year together and we never stop learning together!
My Project
These microscopes are compact and easy-to-manage in a classroom. I was awarded a chance to receive one for my classroom to try out and I loved the opportunity for demonstrations by using a phone or tablet. Students are able to see microscopically what is happening when a chemical reaction occurs. Sadly, only one microscope in the classroom means that I can only show it as a demonstration instead of discovery in a lab setting.
This classroom set of twelve microscopes will allow every lab bench and lab group to have their own microscope to discover, explore, and see what is happening microscopically during a chemical reaction.
Allowing my students the opportunity to interact and have the materials on their own, allows my students the chance to explore without my guidance. This pushes my eleventh and twelfth grade students to be independent thinkers and scientists. The ability to use them on their phones or tablets with only a camera, allows us to investigate the world outside of the four walls of the classroom, bringing the real world investigation into our classroom. These microscopes will help students grow and become better scientists, critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and well-rounded students.
