High school can be a difficult time in everyone's life; my students have extreme challenges due to their disabilities and life circumstances. They need your help!
I deeply believe that my students deserve a chance.
They deserve the SAME opportunities and experiences as student without their exceptional needs.
My students are from an area of high poverty. We have little access to well-updated, working technology; this impacts my students ability to be ready for high school. They each have a different unique disability that makes them truly amazing to teach; they persevere and we celebrate together. But, they need access to tools now so that they can learn job skills and be competitive in our technology driven world. Special education students are often given little or no access to resources their general education peers consistently receive. They deserve the opportunity for an excellent education and access to 21st century tools.
My students love super heroes, Cartoon network, giving each other compliments, and always trying to talk out our conflicts. Pizza is a class food of choice, and we love when we meet our goals!
They are an amazing set of learners and want to reach their after high school goals.
My students need access to games and books that reflect their culture. The books included are about kids who are diverse, have faced the same struggles as my students, or show my students the challenges that others face in their lives. These books are high interest and will allow my class to engage in conversations about culturally relevant topics about our world. For my students with low-incidence disabilities, these games provide engaging learning opportunities for small groups so that I am able to work with students as their ability level.
Text opens the door for students to find their passion in the world!
