Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our school is located in Crown Heights, Brooklyn and serves Pre-K to 5th grade. The majority of young learners at our New York City school receive free and reduced-price lunch. Our first-grade class is made up of 25 goofy, kind, and bright students.

Not only are the students exciting to be around, they are also some of the most caring, hardworking, and curious first graders who act daily as change-makers, bringing a multicultural lens into the classroom.

As their teacher, I strive every day to motivate my students to achieve their highest potential through music and imagination!

My Project

These books will empower and aide me in teaching my students about famous civil rights leaders and events in history, during Black History Month and throughout the school year. These books will support students during their Black History Month book report and encourage them to have conversations with their friends and family.

These books will allow my students to have conversations about loving themselves, empowering themselves, and embracing themselves.

I know that these books will encourage my students to invest in learning about leaders and elevating their voices in and out of our classroom.

Our classroom library would benefit tremendously from this project! Thank you again for your support!
