My Students
Our EL students are from diverse backgrounds, primarily Hmong, Spanish, and Somali speakers. Students live in Cottage Grove, Minnesota and surrounding cities.
The school is identified as Title I and many families are from low-income backgrounds.
EL students would benefit greatly from reading culturally authentic books that foster language and identity. I believe these books are beneficial for all students so our EL team has the EL library accessible for all students at Crestview Elementary School.
My Project
These culturally authentic books will make a huge difference and receive lots of love as they are used for classroom lessons, read alouds, and in the EL library for the entire school to check out.
These culturally authentic books are great at validating and affirming student cultures.
It is important to have quality texts that delve deeper into language and culture. These books will help foster student identity and allow others to learn about people. These books will help with understanding and create opportunities for conversations and relationships to grow.
