This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are special because not only are the odds against us they are stacked against us. My students come in ready to learn every single day with a face of determination. My students are special because they don’t give up, our favorite saying is good, better, best, never let it rest. We’ve been working so hard to master long division in particular, this means every “free moment” we meet for rememediation I.e. during breakfast and snack time to practice the skill. Students at my school are special because they love learning. My students are special because they look forward to coming to school to learn new things. My students are special because we work as a community to reach our goals.
My Project
I would like to introduce and broaden my students knowledge on African American leaders both present and past. I want to celebrate the African American. culture through reading. My school is predominantly all African American and I want students to learn more than MLK Jr. and Rosa Parks. I want to empower students by reading relatable books.
I believe that books I have picked will start classroom discussions and allow students to spark a new interest.
I want students to feel empowered to be in the skin that they are in and understand that we are all apart of a community. In order to feel successful and like a contributor to a community we must first learn to love our unique individualities.
I intend on creating classroom projects centered around the books on the list. I plan to distribute and rotate books throughout the classroom for all students to read.
