Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a low-income area of Los Angeles County. All of my students come from low-income families. We are a Title I-funded school where one hundred percent of our students receive free meals. My students always try their best at everything and anything despite the challenges that they face in their daily lives.
They are expected to have it less easily than others, but we learn that with hard work and consistency, they can be unique or different from the rest.
My students are so eager to learn that it makes coming to work easy!
My Project
My students love to read! If we are able to add these collections of multicultural books to our classroom library, they would be even more excited to pick up a book. In these grade levels, we focus on a variety of genres including fiction, nonfiction, fantasy, adventure, and fairy tales. This collection not only covers those genres, it includes stories that bring the text to life capturing their imaginations and making them want to read more. I would love to give my kids books that they can relate to because they look like the characters.
