I have 21 energetic 2nd graders who love to work hard. We are located in a small town in North Carolina. Our school is a Title 1 school. Many of my students are from situations that are unstable. They often come to school for the stability of our classroom.
In spite of the challenges they face day to day, they are excited and eager to learn.
Each student represents various home backgrounds and life experiences with a broad level of ability and development. They are an amazing group of children with absolutely amazing personalities that come in smiling each and every day.
My goal as a teacher is to instill in the children that they are first and foremost, safe and loved in order to provide them with an opportunity to learn. When a child knows they are loved and safe you have built a relationship in order to begin a successful learning environment for that child.
My Project
This project will give my students an opportunity to acquire comprehension skills in diverse cultures. These picture books show how many characters deal with diversity and acceptance. Showing students to embrace their differences will teach them that being different is acceptable in our society.

Dr.Seuss"
I want to add books about diversity to our classroom library. My students deserve the opportunity to interact with beautiful books and talented authors. Many of my students are developing readers and it would be an asset to them in order to expand our library with books that involve characters that are overcoming obstacles at a variety of levels of diversity.
