My Project
Teaching on the South side of Chicago has been an eye opener to the need for cultural exposure beyond our own school community. Culturally rich literature is one form in which students can become aware, build curiosity and plant seeds of wanting to know more about a certain culture or topic in relation to it. This is my first year teaching Spanish as a world language on the South Side of Chicago. My students have been exposed to music, Latin American countries and dance. I'm excited to create awareness to not only the language, but the whole culture experience. I believe that having immersion in culturally rich literature will aid in their learning, curiosity and how they respond to the world beyond their elementary years.
