Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are Kindergarteners in a high-needs school in Van Nuys, CA. The majority of my students come from disadvantaged homes. Their families struggle to make ends meet and for a lot of my kids, school is a safe, clean place they love coming to.
One of my biggest goals is to instill a love of learning in each of my students!
I know that the best way to do this is by creating a classroom environment that is full of exciting learning opportunities and hands-on, creative activities to engage my students.

"Before they write, they paint." My Kindergarteners' eyes light up when they see me bring out the paint sets. And I remember that feeling from when I was in Kindergarten. They know it's going to be a good day. There's something about painting that is calming, relaxing, stress-releiving, anxiety-decreasing. Unfortunately, the paint sets in my classroom have been enthusiastically depleted! I am asking for new sets so that my new class of Kindergarteners can have the opportunity on a regular basis to enjoy the primal enjoyment of painting. We have some projects that require watercolors and these sets will definitely be put to good use with those projects. However, my favorite thing to do is to give them the time and the place to free paint. To let their imagination and their paintbrush take them away into a world of soft colors. To explore what happens when blue melts into yellow, and red into blue. It is a magical time for them and for me!
