Cultivating Students' Social and Emotional Competencies Through Circle Processes
I need funding to facilitate a six-week session giving students the tools and strategies needed to support positive interactions with others as well as necessary supports to navigate tough experiences at school and at home
Our school consists of nearly 600 students from all around the Kansas City metro area. As a school in the beginning stages of International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, our school offers instruction that is cross-curricular and is both connected to their lives and their experience of the world that they have experienced.
The vision of our school is to cultivate leaders as confident, critical thinkers and empowered through a connection to their global community.
We are a unique middle school that offers intentional programming that grows students who are socially, emotionally, and academically prepared to meet and exceed their personal and academic goals
My Project
Students who attend LMS come from all over Kansas City. Our community knows our students as some of the brightest and most academically capable and gifted. What isn't as prevalently known if that while our students are talented academically, they also carry immense trauma. Coming back to the 2021-2022 school year, this reality has been made painfully aware and our kids need help.
With your help, we intend to bring circle processes to the entirety of our 593 student body population.
Upon completion of this six-week circle process series, we anticipate at LEAST a 50% decrease in office discipline referrals for behaviors including bullying, inciting to fight, fighting, harassment, and assault. This programming will give 100% of students the tools and strategies needed to support positive interactions with both students and staff as well as necessary supports to navigate tough experiences both at school and at home.
The impact is well worth it: cultivating our student's social/emotional competencies in support of their behavioral success as a LMS Tiger and citizen of their community.
