An eager and inquisitive group of second graders keep me on my toes. Their energy and enthusiasm to learn and discover inspires me each day. There is nothing better than having kids tell you they love school, and this motivates me to continue to find ways to maximize their learning while furthering their love for learning.
I teach 32 students from diverse backgrounds with varying learning styles and needs.
Some students come to me devouring chapter books, eager to share the stories they are reading. Others are still chunking out words as they are just beginning the process of reading independently. Many students are second language learners and some students don't have access to technology in their homes.
My Project
In a class of 32 students, it is difficult to share Chromebooks and have the time needed to complete necessary assignments. In our school, you must sign up in advance to get a Chrome cart for a short period of time with enough computers for the whole class. The cart moves around the school and is always in use.
My students would love to have their own set of Chromebooks for our class so they would have more opportunities to enrich their studies.
With more 6 Chromebooks in the classroom, my students would be able to work on cross curricular activities such as research reports on fossils and dinosaurs. My class is just beginning to get their toes wet using the Google Docs program. I look forward to showing them how to make a Google Slide Show to showcase their research. The more opportunities they have on the Chromebooks, the more confident and comfortable they will be to continue learning and exploring the digital world.
