An eager and inquisitive group of second graders keep me on my toes. Their energy and enthusiasm to learn and discover inspires me each day. There is nothing better than having kids tell you they love school, and this motivates me to continue to find ways to maximize their learning while furthering their love for learning.
I teach 32 students from diverse backgrounds with varying learning styles and needs.
Some students come to me devouring chapter books, eager to share the stories they are reading. Others are still chunking out words as they are just beginning the process of reading independently. Many students are second language learners and some students don't have access to technology in their homes.
My Project
At our school, we have Chrome Book carts that are shared with every grade level. You can imagine how hard it is to reserve the cart at an optimal time throughout the week. If we have more Chrome Books within our class, every child will have an opportunity to use them daily. The students would be able to access programs like A to Z to support reading comprehension at their own level, Typing Agent to aid in foundational typing skills, Xtra Math to build fluency in addition, subtraction, and multiplication, and coding for computer-science literacy.

My students have recently begun using Google Drive for research and creating documents to publish. They are thrilled to get on the computer and continue their education in technology. It is crucial to have opportunities to practice these skills daily. Each time they log in, they become more independent and more confident with the skills they are acquiring. These skill are increasingly relevant for success in the world today.
