I teach literacy to two great groups of fourth graders on the southwest side of Chicago. My students are energetic and eager to learn. I strive to provide my students with high-quality learning materials and experiences in order to foster academic growth and a love of learning.
My students are hands-on learners and hard workers.
They appreciate opportunities to engage with learning materials that are interesting, challenging, and designed to supplement their academic growth. As their teacher, I appreciate all contributions that are made toward creating an enriching learning experience for them.
As a literacy teacher, one of my primary goals is to help my students to develop a love of reading. I believe that students can become more interested in reading when they have access to a variety of interesting books. In this case, I have focused on adding book series to our classroom library. Book series are an effective tool to help students increase their reading stamina. As readers become attached to characters and the plot in the book, they are compelled to read more.
The book series selected for this project offer students a range of different genres to choose from, while holding the potential to captivate students' interest, motivating them to read on their own.
While the main purpose of these book series is to promote student interest in books, they will also serve as tools for students to explore different literacy strategies and concepts throughout the school year. Students will apply strategies to books of their choice. High interest books such as these tend to hold popularity in the classroom and promote student investment in class work.
