Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is our first year having live chickens at our school, and it is a huge hit with the parents and the students. The chickens have become a part of our school community and school garden. We need composters and educational tools to help our students learn more about how to compost the chicken poop.
Our school is located in a high poverty area, and many of our students live in the neighboring housing projects.
We always have high attendance, and the students are excited to learn and explore new subjects in the arts and literacy. The students at our school may not have the same opportunities as many NY students; but there is a team of hard-working teachers bridging that gap. I want the students to have a quality education, and the requested supplies would help our students learn more about our garden, chickens, and adding composting to our garden. Our chickens are producing so much wonderful poop, and we want to learn how to use it to benefit our garden and community.
My Project
We are in our third year running a school garden, and the students love weeding, planting, watering, and harvesting in the garden. This past year we added live chickens through a grant. We have five beautiful hens named Diva, Tami, Storm, Coco, and Bella. The students help with feeding the chickens, they named the chickens, and they clean up after the chickens. The students have so many wonderful questions about our new pets.
The composters will help us put the chicken poop, food, and garden scraps to good use in our school garden. The see-through composters, root-vue farms, and books about composting will be used in the classroom to help our students learn more about how these processes will be put to use in our garden. Our students need your help to understand the world and animals around them.
Thank you in advance for helping my students.
Not only will your donation help them explore the world of chickens, chicken poop, and composting, but they will gain confidence in their knowledge. Your donation sends a positive message of generosity and the importance of understanding our environment. My students will be truly touched that someone they don't know cares about their education. Thank you!
