My students need growth mindset books for me to read to them. Middle school can be hard, but hearing from characters that have gone through some of the same things they are experiencing in life helps!
One of my goals this year is to have every student experience a growth mindset, and be exposed to multiple texts that students can relate to. I have been blessed to move up with my students this 2018/19 school year. I can't begin to describe the joy inside, being able to work with some of my same students for another school year. My students respond to our daily read aloud with such enlightenment, that they inspire and teach me things every single day.
My sixth grade students are some of the kindest, and most collaborative and engaged learners that I have been privileged to teach!
We work collaboratively everyday, and use appropriate tools and procedures when selecting what texts to use in the classroom. Choosing appropriate texts that promote responsible twenty first century citizens is my main motivation this year. I want my students to experience connections to texts as they share their personal connections, as well as share new meaning they find. Please help me keep cultivating a growth mindset in my classroom with these texts that I have selected to model during our reading workshops.
My Project
I can honestly say that I love my sixth grade students! I have been blessed to move up a grade level and have some of the same students I taught last year. This year I want to cultivate a classroom that everyone feels they are a part of. I want my students to know that they can grow in different ways, and I want to help set them on the right paths. My teaching philosophy promotes values and ethics that are instrumental to human development and success. I truly believe each one of my students has the capability to do amazing things.
Middle school can be difficult, but I try to make each day count and teach them different ways to think about obstacles they may face.
My campus is diverse, and encompasses over 40 nations across the world. I have selected books that portray various nationalities. I am committed to sharing characters with them that have experienced some of the difficulties they may be experiencing, while recognizing how they overcame any fixed mindsets. Through the texts that I selected, we will read, discuss, and reflect on our own abilities to create a growth mindset throughout this school year. A growth mindset is one I hope they take with them through life when they face challenges.
