My kindergarten students come to me each day full of energy and are eager to learn. They are a diverse group of students from a variety of different home lives. We have students from rural family farms to students who live in one bedroom apartments in town. Regardless of where they are from, they come to school each day thirsting for knowledge!
Over half of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches!
I need to provide an environment in my classroom to accommodate my diverse learners. Additionally, a large percent of my students have emotional and/or learning delays. My goal is to have all students reaching high expectations and achieving their personal goals. In order for them to become "lifelong learners," I need to provide them with experiences to enrich their learning! I desire to provide an enriching project that will afford all of my fantastic little learners many opportunities to work together in groups and individually while feeling successful and proud of their accomplishments!
My students have a thirst for knowledge. I would love to add a robot to our classroom! It gives them a different way to display their understanding by using logic and reasoning as they will be coding using basic functionality of directions, shapes and colors. There are 5 maps that take the students to magical places. My students using coding to navigate their way through magical lands will be a wonderful way to begin their foundation of coding through logic, while also building relationships with each other. The robot project gives opportunities for teamwork, team-building and individual coding events. Having a robot is a way to help my students positively define their school experiences by making learning fun, interactive and creative!
"Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or the same way" - George Evans.
This project will show my students that things are possible and EVERYONE can learn but maybe not in the same way! My students will also have many opportunities to learn from each other facilitating more learning and self-worth in the process. This will allow my students to learn the coding process and express themselves in a multitude of different ways!
