Welcome to a classroom in one of America’s largest cities! The youth of today will be the citizens of tomorrow! I as their teacher would like to provide them with the best possible education.
My students and I interact every school day as I teach Forensics and Biology in a classroom in which glass windows are covered with construction paper so that we are not distracted by the students next door.
Midst this classroom with almost no air circulation and in the drone of a “donated” fan, my students learn the importance of collecting evidence at the crime scene, witness testimony, and the branches of forensic science.
The High School I work in is a high need school with about forty-three hundred students. It attracts about forty-three hundred students, many of whom are on the subsidized lunch program. The school has a diverse student body that reflects the cultural diversity of the city. However our resources are minimal and cannot meet the needs of my students. Many of my students are visual learners and distributing black and white copies do little to stimulate them mentally.
My Project
As a result of my inability to provide my students with visual representation of the material I teach, I am unable to provide them with the best possible education in this age of technology. Donations to this request will help my students to be better prepared as they leave school and begin college or join the work force. They will develop a sense of fluency as they make personal and group presentations. In the 21st century, where technological changes are fast paced the ability to use technology is not a luxury but a necessity! I hope to bring the best possible visual effects as I present topics from crime scene scenarios, witness testimony, DNA fingerprinting and current environmental issues like global warming I can already see the light in their eyes! My goal is to motivate my students to learn and to instill in them the joy of learning.
The availability of a LCD projector will help me deliver my lessons visually.
Students are inspired and excited when content is accompanied by pictures in contrasting colors. I can use a variety of educational websites to bring the world into my classroom! My students will be able to make classroom presentations in Forensics and Biology. They will develop a sense of pride and self-esteem as they claim ownership of their learning.
