Ms. Sica from East Orange NJ is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a variety of reading/writing materials, such as a collection of high-interest, low level reading stories, mini mystery readers, and The Trait Crate, so we may work in small groups to build reading comprehension.

"For success, attitude is as important as ability." My students write this on every paper they hand in. Why you ask. My students are the ones most people have given up on, the ones who have given up on themselves. It is my job and duty to uplift them and give them the skills they need to succeed!
We are a small charter school in New Jersey.
Our school is just three years old and already we have made an impact. My students are special education students in a resource replacement language arts room. They come to me in 5th grade and are often on a 1st or 2nd grade reading level. They come in with the weight of the world on their tiny shoulders. However, they are the most creative, inspirational group of students. We may not have a lot of resources but we use what we have the fullest ability possible. They are hard-working and loving students. They have been told they "can't" do so many things that in my room we show then they can!
My students' reading ability is often very behind. We need to crush the gap between them and the rest of the world! These materials will be used in a small group setting to give the students the tools they need to start to climb to the top of their educational ladder. We will be able to concentrate on the skills of reading while still on their reading level. The Traits of Writing Crate will be used in conjunction with the books I am requesting. My students need to write. The Traits Crate will help create creative and fun lessons for my students. It will give them the ability to be successful both in the classroom and out.
We do not have a lot of money in our budget but my students need these materials.
They need the chance to succeed. They need the opportunity to succeed. My students will use these materials to the fullest potential. With these supplies they WILL crush the gap.
