My Students

Achieve! That is the mission statement for our K-12 district. What does that mean in my fourth-grade classroom? How can I make sure each one of my students achieves? What extra things can I do to make them feel safe, challenged, and inspired?

It is my mission as an educator to make sure my students believe they are capable of great things and to help them reach their goals.

I work hard to make my classroom engaging so that my students look forward to coming to school every day and learning.

My amazingly resilient students live in frigid northern Wisconsin. We live in a high-poverty area without many financial resources. Nevertheless, my kids arrive every morning ready to learn. I have received wonderful gifts from amazing people in the last six years, and my classroom has become a more exciting place thanks to the generosity of donors.

My Project

My students eat lunch very early, around 11:00 a.m. and some of them don't get off the bus until after 5:30 p.m. That's a long time for young children to work and play without refueling. Most of them are hungry even before they get on the bus. I'd like to give them a snack time in the afternoon while they are reading.

Providing snacks for the whole class allows ALL the children to have a snack, not just the ones who remembered or whose parents were able to afford to send a snack.

Having a class snack also allows me the opportunity to teach the kids about nutrition and making healthy choices when they are snacking.
