I work in a Title 1 school that serves children of lower income families. Many of the students are of a minority- whether Hispanic, Native American or African American. The students learn to work together and respect each other. The students work hard to learn and overcome other obstacles in life. Some of the parents are active in their child's education, while others may want to but are focused on working to provide for their children.
I serve as a math and science teacher for 3rd grade.
The students rotate to me from my homeroom and my partner's homeroom. The students learn how to work with fractions and begin learning how to multiply and divide during the course of the year.
My Project
I am asking for flexible seating options and basic supplies. With the new seating options, my students will have an opportunity to sit around the room in different locations. The stools and seat cushions provide different choices for the students. Some of the stools will also be used at the small group table. The students will enjoy coming to work with the teacher while they are able to sit on the stools. The wobble seats may be used on the floor and also on their seat to improve focus.
Also, the paper and pencils will help to ensure the students are able to complete their work.
Most of the students do not come to class with pencils or paper to complete their work, so by having it available in the classroom, the students will not be able to say they can't complete their work.
