My Project

I teach 7th grade English, and my students are curious, kind, full of joy, energy, and a sense of adventure. They are also diverse, and some face a variety of challenges, as they seek to navigate this always confusing, sometimes treacherous time of life. Some of the challenges they face originate at home, where lack of support or resources makes every day life difficult. and academics irrelevant. However, despite these challenges, almost all my students LOVE to read! However, our class novel sets are out of date (My Brother Sam is Dead, Witch of Blackbird Pond, etc.) and do not reflect my student's interests or their diversity. They do not see themselves in these books. I have one copy of Crossover in my classroom and it is always out...the students love it. It will be a wonderful class novel to use for a step into poetry that they won't hate, and to help them hear and share their own authentic voices.
