My students need 4 Hot Dots Pens, and 3 sets of quiz cards to help create excitement about increasing their independent math abilities whether it be for intervention, review, or enrichment.
Do you remember a time when you enjoyed using index style flash cards to study? Probably NOT! My students have been infused with technology all around them, and I think finding resources available that will help reinforce the necessary skills my students need presented through technology is key!
My twenty-two students are eager and enthusiastic second graders that are still highly impressionable, academically and socially.
My students attend a high-poverty school in South Carolina. My students are heterogeneously grouped and are wide-spread academically. I have a large portion of my class below grade level, several on grade level, and some above grade level. I feel very strongly about teaching to my students at the level they NEED to be taught and providing resources and lessons that help each child make academic gains to meet their goals. My students like to please people by showing them what they can do and what they have learned, and they LOVE using any technology they can get their hands on.
My Project
I am requesting a set of Hot Dot pens (4) and three different levels of math (standards-based) flash cards for my students to use. Once I train my students how to use this technology, I will be able to include them in a math center in my room for students to use during our small group instruction times. They will be able to use them without having to have a teacher right beside them, and they will get immediate feedback and information right from the resources. My students will be able to check their understanding of all math concepts, and they will learn from their mistakes and hear the re-teaching occur with guided practice activities through the pens and flash cards. My students already love a similar activity in our room (for reading), and I know they would love using these for math as well! Because I am requesting various levels: 1st grade, 2nd grade, and the third grade sets ALL of my students would be able to utilize this resource for review, intervention, and enrichment!
Supporting this project will provide my students with a technology based resource totally focused on math skills.
So much of the education focus has been on reading instruction (which is highly important), and I want my students to fully understand the importance of math skills, as well! These Hot Dot Pens will help my students work independently and build their self confidence in their own math performance! Supporting this project will support each student in my classroom!
