My students need 22 new books to complete series I have in my library and favorite titles lost from my shelf. The titles include "The Fault in Our Stars," "Why I Fight" and "City of Lost Souls."
I have my own classroom library, mostly funded from my own pocket, but getting students to read is a challenge.
Most of my students have never read an entire book, and they are in 9th grade.
They see reading as a chore. However, it is a requirement to read a book a month in my class, so I have gotten some to realize there are good books out there. At a title one school with parents who are not educated themselves, they have not been exposed to books very often.
My Project
Any time I bring in a new book, summarize the plot, .and put it on my shelf, students start checking it out. Many students have started the series, but I do not have the rest of the series, and they have been begging me for them. I want to provide them with these books as it is rare to hear my students actually beg for books. The books I have requested that are not part of a series are books that deal with topics my students have expressed an interest in.
I have spent a lot of my own money on books, so I can not provide them these titles, but the fact that I have students requesting these titles is a miracle.
They actually want to read, so I need your help putting these books in their hands.
