My students are enamored of using the internet for learning. Their eyes light up when I tell them to get out their devices to play Kahoot or Quizlet, and their groans are substantially less when I tell them the essay we're going to write will be typed. Kids today are so much more tech savvy than I was when I was their age (can you say Commodore 64?), and they have grown up with a smart phone in their hands.
As a teacher, I want to harness their passion and use their interest in all things electronic for building learning gains instead of mushy brains.
Kids will use their tech devices for Snapchat and Instagram, but when given the opportunity, they will also use it to explore and dig and learn something they didn't know before. Students today will google what they need to know or watch a video to help them understand. My students have looked inside the human body, written to students on the other side of globe, and deepened their understanding of the world they live in.

Having regular computer access means that my students will be able to dig deeper than they can with just their textbooks. These Chromebooks will allow them to introduce themselves to students around the world and view things beyond their backyard. My students can use their Chromebooks for everything to designing the next great invention to coding to writing to researching. My students have used even their limited computer time to make animation, code a game, write a play, research a disease, and talk to other teenagers across the world.
Students today are no longer limited to the books that are just in their middle school library; with computers, they have access to every book and bit of information
