Critical Thinking Through Cubing!

My students need a library of Rubik's cubes to help grow their critical thinking skills. Students who have mastered the 3 x3 Rubik's cube can check out these other types of cubes to solve!

My Students

The fifth graders at our school are an energetic, open minded, persevering group of students. We work hard to challenge our students to be critical thinkers as well as problem solvers.

Learning how to solve the Rubik’s Cube teaches our students life long skills like perseverance and critical thinking.

It’s amazing how quickly they pick it up and surpass my best time! This will be the fourth year we have entered our state competition. Our hopes are to take home first place!

My Project

Learning to solve the Rubik's cube seems impossible for most people, until they realize it is a set of steps you do. I use the Rubik's cubes in my math class to talk about algorithms and how the steps you take effect your outcome. It is amazing to see how quickly the students can master the 3 x 3 cube. These other types of cubes use similar strategies and the students are able to use what they know to solve them. Most of my cubing students can solve the 3 x3 in under 1 minute by the end of the school year!
