My 2nd graders are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects. They also enjoy challenges that allow them to think outside the box.
"Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of a mind to think." Albert Einstein
My students are fearless when it comes to technology and, as children of the 21st century, they need to be prepared to use a variety of tools to engage their world. Unfortunately, many of these children do not have access to technology in their homes.
We also have very limited resources available in our school.
Our school is nestled in a rural community in North Carolina, which was once surrounded by bustling furniture mills. Now, with many of them closed, our families often struggle to find employment and opportunity. Many of my children are living in poverty and do not have access to technology at home. We are a large school. It's difficult to provide access to technology for all of my children daily.
I want to my students to have access to the latest technology and STEM materials which will help them develop the skills they need to be successful in the future.
My Project
These materials will help enhance the technology rich environment I strive to create for my students. The Sphero & Omso systems will allow my students to build a stronger understanding of coding as well as problem solving skills. The building sets will allow my students to learn math skills while work in cooperative groups. Most importantly, these hands-on materials will help my students learn in a creative way which will help them become part of a successful learning community.
