My students need fun and challenging independent Language Arts activities, games, and puzzles to take back to their seats once they have completed their regular class assignments.
Do you remember how excited you were when you first learned how to tie your own shoes? Ride a bike? Read an entire story on your own? Didn't you want to practice and show others what you could do?
My students are beginning readers who are excited about learning and trying things out on their own.
They attend a public charter school with strong parent support. They are eager to learn and demonstrate their new knowledge to others. They need a variety of activities to strengthen their reading and writing skills.
My Project
Our class needs a variety of self-check independent activities that students can practice at their seats once they have finished their assigned classwork. Activities like Around the Room Word Hunt will give students a chance to practice new concepts, review old ones and build on prior and current knowledge in a fun, educational way. These activities like, Vocabulary Folder Game Library and Write the Alphabet Cards, also give students a chance to be problem solvers and learn how to work independently in classroom without being disruptive to their peers. Students can take charge of their learning. Activities like Phonemic Awareness Folder Game will also reinforce phonics, reading comprehension, and writing skills which are all a part of language arts.
Each activity set will be introduced slowly so students can learn how to use the activity at their desks.
Then as students become more comfortable with the activity, newer sets will be introduced until students have a variety of independent activities to choose from. Students will learn to be more proactive about what they are doing with their time in class, be more responsible and do this in a productive way.
