Ms. Trinidad from Los Angeles CA is requesting Reading Nooks, Desks & Storage through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students a carpeted sitting area that is inviting and spacious for all my students to come and learn, share ideas, and collaborate with each other.
My students are brilliant!
They are part of a Dual Language Program (Spanish) at a Title 1 School.
They are eager to learn and they love showing their learning through the use of different means. Our classroom provides a place for them to feel safe and comfortable for them to grow and excel.
Some of my students come from foster homes, single parents homes and both parent homes. Some face hardships and real-life struggles that hinder their learning. But, despite all of their everyday challenges they still come into our class with a bright big smile in their faces and they show interest in learning.
Every day they come ready to learn. Learning two languages is not easy but they are motivated, confident, and dedicated individuals who come to class to learn all that they can. They are great individuals who are making gains in order to achieve great things and prepare themselves for college.
The most important time of the day is Circle Time! During this time my students are learning listening skills as well as respect for their peers and the teacher. It's time to learn and pay attention. Sitting down for a long period of time can be a bit uncomfortable. My students need an area that can provide them with comfort. They need an area in which they want to come and sit.
The students would find this carpet to be very inviting and each of them would have a space to call their own.
In our Kindergarten class, we spent lots of time in the rug area, is when we all get to sit close to each other and share what we are learning.
Our rug time, it's a Magic Carpet Rug Ride! We get to explore literature that takes our imagination into different journeys. We become engineers during our math time, a scientist during our science lessons, historians during our social studies. We become a world full of wonders and surprises that help us grow and learn.
Having a carpeted area in a Kindergarten is extremely important at this age to help the students learn how to sit in close proximity of their peers while keeping on task with the instruction. It also allows for flexible seating during math and literacy games and promotes movement in the classroom to get their "wiggles" out. Kindergartners come to school with a ton of energy and a carpeted area will make my classroom environment more welcoming!
