This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My class consists of 25, energetic, creative, and smart first graders. I teach in a Title I-funded school and 100% of my students receive free lunch. My school has a high percentage of children from low-income families. Not every family has the financial stability to supply the children with the proper supplies to be successful in school. They are eager, active learners who come to school ready to learn each day.
My school is in a low-income area and my students face many challenges.
Despite the challenges they face outside of school my students strive to do their very best. My students motivate me to be the best teacher ever. They are very encouraging, and they bring joy to my class every day.
My Project
My students have morning meetings to kick off the school day. During circle time, we review the day's schedule, the alphabet and letter sounds, count to 100, and examine the weather. Circle time is something that my children look forward to, but they'll have to accomplish this job at their desks for the time being. During circle time, I envision a colorful, expansive carpet for my students to gather on, allowing for a more personal experience for them, a color carpet for a colorful carpet time. Colorful carpets will brighten my students' days and allow them to sit with their peers during our morning meeting and story time. Having a rug at the front of our classroom will allow my students to get up close and personal with their teacher and classmates. This rug will transform our classroom for the better.
