Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

In my classroom, I call my students "my kids" because in our years together they aren't just kids on my roll, they become a part of my heart and everyday life. I have never imagined having a position that brings me as much joy as my role as a 6th grade teacher has. I am a science teacher at an inner city public school in BR, Louisiana where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and snacks .

My traditional classroom hosts students from a variety of economic backgrounds, learning styles, and educational experiences.

Every scientist that walks though my door has the opportunity to be loved unconditionally and immersed fully in our grade level content by diving hands first into NGSS standards in a student-led and driven atmosphere atmosphere.

We are always doing labs, project based style lessons, and STEM/STEAM activities that constantly challenge our scientists and feeds their curiosities through hands on, investigative learning. My students need supplies and lab materials for a CSI themed inquiry unit to start off our '18-'19 school year. My job is to prepare them for a lifetime of learning and career in science, it all starts in Ms. Rhodes' room!

My Project

Portable black-lights can be used to detect trace amounts of substances and chemicals in our crime scene labs. Lab glasses and Nitrile gloves can be used as personal protective equipment for safety. Luminol, germ Glow powder, fingerprint powder, and pH test strips can be used to investigate trace amounts of substances and chemicals in our crime scene labs.

With the new science standards our students get to involve themselves in many different lab experiments, I want our future scientist to be able to explore and become curious as they dive deep into the world of science thinking like Real Crime Scene Investigators!

Students need the best in order to be their best. Science is our future as it allows our future leaders to question, wonder, and explore their beautiful world!
