My Students

I teach in a Title I school, which means the majority of my students live below the poverty line. My students are great; they just have many needs that I am unable to fund on my own. I personally will not allow a student to go without the materials that they need.

My school is not unlike many others, lacking the extras that make school interesting and engaging.

Despite the lack of materials my students are insightful, hopeful, and eager to learn.

My Project

The end of the school year has a tendency to be filled with movies and maybe some fun, but very little learning. I want my students to participate in a week long crime scene investigation (CSI) style.

The students will run the investigation from beginning to end; they will collect evidence, analyze the evidence, interview witnesses and suspects, write reports, and conduct a court case.

This hands on experience will make the students want to come the last week of school, even if just to see what's next. Was the victim poisoned or just allergic? The students will do the science and find out.
