Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“I treat all my students the same. I don't consider their disability an excuse, but, rather, a point of motivation. When you enter my classroom, you no longer see children with special needs, but a teacher who meets the needs of special children.“ Anita Ramirez
My kids are amazing!
I work at a Title One, public school located in a small, inner city neighborhood. The majority of the students I work with have special needs. My kids benefit from instruction aided by technology and hands-on learning. Each of my students faces different barriers due to their disability. My kids are unique, exceptional and joyful children who love to learn. "I call my students "my kids" because in our year together, they aren't just kids on my list, they become a part of my heart.
My Project
The Cricut bright pad and the Cricut supplies can help make writing, reading and math STEM projects fun! It can be used to cut out shapes, letters and pictures. In our writing center, a Cricut machine can create holiday and seasonal shapes for students to create cards for friends and family, to create stories or to use as a writing prompt.
Students will want to participate more in our activities because we can use the Cricut machine to create fun, seasonal pictures to be used for learning.
In reading, a Cricut mini press can be used to create felt puppets for retelling stories and to create sight word and phonics activities. We currently print characters from our stories onto cardstock paper. If we were able to create actual puppets, such as finger puppets, with felt using the machine, students will be more engaged and have fun learning at the same time!
