Cricut to provide ELL Classroom with Print Rich Environment!
Help me give my students a Cricut for STEM! A print rich environment (especially for English Language Learners) is proven to help children associate letters to sounds, sounds to words, words to objects, and so much more.
Our students are part of two 4th grade classrooms that consist of 44 hard workers who love hands-on learning! We spend our day meeting the rigor of Common Core Curriculum with fun, exciting and engaging lessons that are full of interactive learning. Our school is part of an extremely impoverished district, and as teachers, we are doing everything we can to help bring new materials and experiences to our students that will forever change their educational experience.
It is common to walk into our classroom and see students being self-directed learners who collaborate with one another and preserve through difficult work.
They strive to do their best and even when faced with such adversity show up each and every day ready to give their best effort. They couldn't make us more proud!
The students work hard and are dealing with some challenging situations outside of school. Let's work hard to give them the best education and opportunities at school that we can!
My Project
A print-rich environment is proven to help children associate letters to sounds, sounds to words, and words to objects. At a very young age, children are able to associate logos with meaning. This is just the beginning. Having an ELL classroom with English Language Learners it is imperative that they learn in a print-rich environment! With a Cricut machine, my students and I will be able to produce an inviting print-rich environment that will make our classroom a perfect place for our English Language Learners to learn! We will be able to organize our materials better by labeling their "home" (again associating words with objects). They will see these words daily and begin to use and recognize their spelling.
A child needs to hear and use a word several times before it becomes a part of their everyday vocabulary.
In addition to labeling and organizing, the Cricut machine will also allow us to create wall decor with quotes from our favorite authors. Using the language that they see in their favorite books demonstrates to the students that books are to be valued and learned from. There are so many lessons to be learned from books! It will also be used for students to create their own STEM materials! What better way to absorb information in school than by hands-on creation of materials by students!
