Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a self-contained special education teacher who teaches students that have a variety of disabilities which include, autism, speech and language impairment, ADHD, and other health impairments.
My students have difficulty focusing and staying on task.
My classroom also includes a wide range of recent immigrants from various cultures. I create my own lesson plans to differentiate for every students' learning needs, skills, abilities and cultural diversity. Because it is a Title I school, students often begin the school year without the proper supplies and we have limited resources.
I would love for all of my students to be motivated to learn, have fun, be comfortable and have access to the same materials in order to be successful.
My Project
The students in my diverse class have an unbelievable imagination. Unfortunately, being in a low income school it is difficult for them to be creative given we have a lack of supplies. My students love creating crafts to be displayed in the room or gifts to be given to family members for holidays, birthdays, mother’s day/father’s day, etc. Being able to see their work displayed on bulletin boards around the classroom/school or give someone a gift makes them feel accomplished.
A Cricut would be a great addition to our classroom to allow these students to create a variety of different projects.
Teachers can also use the Cricut to organize the classroom (labels, signs, names) and decorate for the students. An organized classroom environment is so crucial for children. Creativity is important for students growing up. Help my student’s imagination come to life!
