Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an inner-city school where the majority of the population receives free lunch, and there is a high poverty rate. These students face challenges every day in their community as well as in their academic lives. In our school, we have a satellite program, where many students with mild or moderate cognitive impairments learn in a high school setting. These students range in age from 14 to 21 years of age, with a grade level of K to 3rd grade.
These special needs students not only require studies that will help them in basic math, reading, and writing, but they also need help with daily living skills.
They spend part of the day in school learning the required courses and the other part of the day in the field at local stores to help them be productive members of society.
These students are challenged academically and physically. We need to give them as many opportunities to succeed as possible. This is why I am asking for your help. The students will be grateful to anyone who helps them.
My Project
We would love to build upon our Cricut machine with the Cricut heat presses. This project will be used with the Leap and Bounds population to create themed t-shirts to be worn on special occasions I.e. Autism Awareness month.
The heat presses will help adhere the vinyl to the shirts so that when the students wash them or wear them they will stay on for a very long time.
It makes creating t-shirts much easier to complete since this population, that will be using these presses, needs accommodations and modifications within their activities.
