My Students
I currently work with an energetic group of high school students on the autism spectrum in Houston, Texas. My students are typical teenagers who have a love for technology. They are very energetic and require challenging activities to keep them actively engaged.
Our school is a Title I school and seventy-eight percent of the students are economically disadvantaged.
Despite the challenges they face on an everyday basis, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
The Cricut supplies that I am requesting will be used for Arts and Crafts activities. My students will design greeting cards, design t-shirts and personalize items to sale. These activities will help improve their social and verbal communication skills. Crafting activities help foster cooperation, teamwork and a sense of acceptance. My students are highly visual thinkers. Expressing feelings and ideas through the crafting activities will be a welcome relief from the daily struggle to use their words effectively. By donating to our project, you will not only help my students channel autistic behaviors to expressive and creative outlets, you will ultimately help promote communication, sensory integration while fostering social interactions in a fun setting.
