My kindergartners are active, kind, talented, and curious students who love to be independent and have opportunities to make their own choices. My students live in a very low-income neighborhood that surrounds our small Title I school. Some of my students are English Language Learners who speak several languages. Some of my kindergartners have had no previous school experience and have limited academic and technological experiences at home. They are very active students who love hands-on activities that challenge them to learn.
My Project
Our school recently added a Makerspace studio to our library media center. This space promotes STEAM ideas, promotes creativity, and allows students a safe and innovative space to use critical thinking. Our Makerspace currently includes coding robots, building materials, and a 3D printer. However, a major part of STEAM is integrating art. Our art space is in need of a Cricut machine to make our creative ideas come to life.
A Cricut machine will allow our students to bring their Makerspace art projects to life by having the ability to cut many materials such as paper, fabric, vinyl, and even wood!
This machine can also draw intricate designs and bring 3-D art to life. A Cricut machine will dramatically open up the possibilities for what our students can create.
It will also be shared with other teachers in the building that may need to create visual aids to support their students. It will be used by students in grades K-5 on a weekly basis. This machine will be used for many years to come and impact many students.
