Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a high-poverty area of Los Angeles. The majority of my students are part of the free lunch program and come from low socio-economic homes environments. Having money for food and other house hold expenses takes priority over taking kids out to learn and explore or have learning games, books, or technology at home.
My Kindergarten students deserve a classroom that has all types of technology resources to help them be creative in all academic areas.
I want to give my Kindergarten students a great first school experience that inspires them to develop a love of reading, writing, math and science through hands on activities and technology.
My Project
My Kindergarten students like holding and manipulating objects to learn. With the Cricut maker I can cut out letters so that students can match capital with lower case letters, spell out words, add words to presentation projects. I can also label the various things in the classroom so that students can read and write.
The Cricut Maker also has the ability to cut felt so that I can create felt characters so that the students can use to develop their oral language story telling skills.
I would love to get them excited about reading by having them draw characters and write lines from their favorite books and put them on t-shirts for Read Across America. I see endless possibilities on how this machine can help enhance my student's learning.
Having a Cricut maker in our classroom will help meet all my student's modalities and levels of learning.
