My English Language Learners come from all around the globe. We have over 20 languages spoken and have an amazing blend of so many different cultures. Many of these students arrive to my class not knowing a word of English. Our ESL program gives them the opportunity to learn and practice English in a comfortable, non-threatening environment.
These students inspire me every single day.
They are energetic, hardworking, and have so much to share. It melts my heart to see these students grow and thrive from day to day. Many of these students have come here from countries where they have fled their homes and left their families. They have come to America with nothing but hopes to begin a new life.
We have both a pull-out and push-in ESL program in which the students are immersed in the classroom culture as well as pulled out for individualized programming. The ESL program is more than just teaching English. We are a family. Every student that comes in brings their own story and makes our school their favorite place to be!
My Project
When English is not your first language, it could be very difficult to express yourself. A lot of my students do not have the language to communicate, but they are able to communicate in other ways. Having a Cricut Maker in the classroom will not only help these students to express their creativity, but it also gives them pride. It will help them to express themselves in other ways and feel included.
I want my students to be able to express themselves creatively and gain the confidence they deserve to have.
Having a Cricut Maker will give my students the ability to make hands on projects to enhance their English learning. It will also help them create various posters and bulletin boards to display what we are learning and also to document trips that we go on. Since it is also computer based, it will give my students the skills to create their own projects and be creative beyond their wildest imaginations. This will also make our classroom visually rich and give all ELL students an opportunity to participate and feel included.
